How To Clean Vinyl Siding

What makes vinyl siding a great option for your home’s exterior is that it is durable – no paint flaking or wood rotting to deal with. Often once you get your vinyl siding installed you will notice that it doesn’t take much before you start to notice it getting dirty. We have white vinyl siding and back onto a very busy road so during the summer a lot of dust gets kicked up which in turns makes our house look dirty.

When it comes to cleaning vinyl siding, it is an easy job that you can undertake yourself. Just get your pressure washer and soap and off you go. Here are a few tips to make it go smoothly:

  • Cover any plants or bushes with a plastic tarp (I try to do my cleaning in the fall so I don’t damage any of my plants moving my washer and ladder around)
  • Make sure any electrical outlets and lights are covered
  • Move any outdoor furniture or garden supports (ie. trellises or arbors)
Once you have gotten everything covered and out of the way, it is time to bring out the big gun…the pressure washer that is! Add some soap to the washer’s dispenser and start washing. You will be amazed at how quickly your siding will turn from dull & dirty to as good as new!
