As an accompanying post to my square foot gardening write up, I wanted to show you an example of how these gardens can be made to look very nice.
In some parts of the United States there are organizations called Homeowners Associations. For those of you who are not familiar with HOA’s you just need to know they are the scourge of gardeners wherever they exist.
If you want anything in your yard other than lawn or concrete, you will risk facing their wrath! In order to avoid upsetting the HOA for my townhome, I had to bypass some of the cheaper methods of building a square foot garden – i.e. using materials such as old railroad sleepers.
I had to go buy some very expensive brick work from my local hardware store to use as the border for my raised beds. This was costly and a lot of work, but at least I don’t have to worry about my local community busy bodies complaining about the look of my garden.
