Deciding on a new piece of Garden equipment?
Try Renting
If you find yourself in need of a new piece of equipment for your garden, especially something substantial and mechanical, and are uncertain of what you’re needing exactly, or maybe unsure of how to operate it even, then a great option I’ve found is to simply rent one.
I’m not meaning renting forever, rather just pick one up for a day, or maybe a weekend, then put it through it’s paces. You’ll find this is a great way to take a trial run of whatever you’re considering, without laying out a wad of cash, or buying something that’s really not what you were thinking it was.
Items such as:
- Lawn Mowers
- Chainsaws
- Pressure Washers
- Hedge Trimmers
- Tree Pruners
- etc
are all contenders for a weekend’s rental.
Determine what you DO NOT want easily & cheaply
As often as not, a weekend working with a piece of garden equipment will show you some features of a certain model that you DO NOT want, and give you a better feeling of exactly what to be looking for when you do eventually start looking to purchase your own.
Recently I had a whoops with my old electric pressure washer, and had to rent a Gasoline Powered Pressure Washer for a weekend, and discovered an accessory that I don’t think I could live without, the T-Racer Wide Area Surface Cleaner .
Having used a washer with this attachment made picking the brand of washer I’d eventually purchase a whole lot simpler, as I now know that I’ll be looking for a model that fits the accessory, namely a Karcher brand, of a capacity between 2450 & 2700 psi.
If I had not rented, I could very well have purchased a model that was not compatible with the T Racer, and I would have been somewhat dissatisfied every time I used it.
For the cost of a weekends rental, it’s a great way to trial something expensive, or unfamiliar to you.
